About this position
Nami Independent Living is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and experienced Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide 1:1 specialized support as part of a 2:1 staffing model for an adult individual with developmental disabilities and complex behavioral support needs.
The DSP will assist a indivisual in maintaining safety, developing independence, participating in meaningful daily activities, and implementing individualized support strategies. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting individuals with autism, intellectual disabilities, behavioral challenges, communication needs, and safety risks.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide direct support and supervision based on the person’s Individualized Service Plan (ISP) and Behavior Support Plan.
Maintain a safe environment and provide close supervision due to risks including:
Elopement/wandering behaviors
Aggression or unsafe behaviors
Property destruction
Pica behaviors (ingesting unsafe items)
Self-injurious behaviors
Seizure-related safety needs
Aspiration and health-related safety concerns
Follow established safety protocols, crisis prevention procedures, and emergency response plans.
Support positive behavior strategies using ABA-informed approaches, including:
Prompting and reinforcement
First-Then strategies
Visual supports
Choice-making
Functional communication strategies
Assist the person with community participation and meaningful activities based on his interests and abilities.
Encourage independence with daily living skills, routines, communication, and social engagement.
Collect and document daily notes, behavioral observations, and service data accurately.
Communicate professionally with the family, support team, and supervising professionals.
Attend required training and staff meetings
